Starting out
thirty years ago as a photography major at an obscure little art school
in Western Pennsylvania, Kradel's camera has been at her side ever since,
especially so when she travels.
"Traveling
is a way of life for me and I seem to be happiest and feel most at home
when I am out on the road, exploring cultures other than my own. Whether
I am discovering Maya archaeological sites or Maya healers in The Yucatan,
chasing my DNA in Prague, or meeting other travelers from around the world,
when I travel, I use my camera as my sketchbook to record the observations
of my journeys.
My travel
photographs are fairly straight up, natural light photography. I tend
to take photographs of subjects that interest me visually and as memory
catchers.
Through photographing
similar subject matter on my different travels, I have also found that
I've created a few different pictorial bodies of work.
Look Up!
is a series of photographs literally looking up, usually off center in
architectural environments. Domes, arches, ceilings, vaults, skylights,
all views that we might pass by if we don't do the one thing we need to
do to see them - look up!
Chairs
began, almost of course, in Paris, where chairs are in random abundance
in the parks, museums and cathedrals. A series that is not original by
any means, but interesting to me none the less.
Winged
Victory is the study of an afternoon in the life of the sculpture."
The photographs
shown in this portfolio were shot digitally as large jpegs. The work is
available to use for a fee, in publications and on other web sites.
Some are
also available for print exhibitions as well as individually signed, archival,
